To join as an Adult

Every group of Cadets, or Platoon as we like to call it, has its own adult leaders (Officers and Adult Instructors).

We are now recruiting new adults to work with cadets throughout the County of Gwent.

Officers of the ACF hold special Territorial Army Commissions, and they, and the Adult Instructors (as Senior Non-Commisioned Officers) wear the appropriate uniform and badges of rank which we will provide.

Travelling expenses are paid and you can also earn up to 28 days pay each year for training at weekends, at Annual Camp and on courses.
The Army Cadet Force adult has to lead from the front - but don't worry if you have no previous service in the Forces. We will give you the training as long as you have the motivation.

Although there is naturally a distinct 'military flavour' to our organisation, our main aim is to produce good citizens. We are not a junior branch of the Army. Our youth leaders come from all walks of life and it is what you can do to contribute that really matters to us.
We need enthusiastic adults, aged 19 to 50, of good character, who enjoy outdoor activities and are physically fit. You will need to convince a Selection Board that you will be able to relate well to the cadets.

Experience, common sense and responsibility are more important to us than formal qualifications. In return for your time - one or two evenings a week, several weekends a year and two weeks at Annual Summer Camp, we will give you the appropriate training and guidance to enable you to become a competent instructor.

You will start as a Potential Instructor and be given the opportunity to gain further rank on promotion. If you are suitable, you may be considered for a commission as an Officer.

You will gain immense job satisfaction and have a lot of fun by giving today's youth the chance to become the good citizen of tomorrow.

Whilst you are doing this, you will meet and work with like-minded, socially aware adults. You can also gain qualifications in:

Climbing, Abseiling, Watermanship, Physical training, Expedition Leadership, First Aid and the
Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Through your Army Cadet Force service you will improve your own leadership and management skills, which can be of considerable advantage to you and an employer in civilian life.

If you wish to be considered as an Adult Instructor please contact us by clicking the 'Vacancies' button on the menu on the left of the screen.

We will then send you an application form and further details.
